I am now officially 39. I don't feel much different yet, which isn't unusual after a birthday. I did spend a bit of time reflecting and realized that when my mother was my age she had four children, was still beautiful, a size 6 and got to stay at home and raise her children without worrying how the bills were going to be paid. Don't get me wrong - we were never blessed with an abundance of money. Somehow my parents made us feel as though we were though. I remember thinking my mother was the most beautiful, elegant woman in the world, and I still do. She would always get up and make us breakfast, set the table and sit with us and when we got home from school, the table was set for tea and we all sat together and had a snack before we went out to the barn or started our homework. She made our lunches for us and packed them and then drew little pictures on the bags like bunnies and kittens.
When it was our birthday, we always woke up to the breakfast table set and a balloon and presents on our plate. All the other kids got a little present on their plate so they didn't feel left out.
I went to a baby shower yesterday for a friend and was reminded of that - it was my birthday and the guest of honor remembered and gave me a little gift bag. On her special day she still thought of me. Thanks, B! Hope you had a great day and got all sorts of special baby presents!
